MY NEW LOVE. This one is a real beauty, this practical and super affordable companion for a movie freak nomad like me.. The NEXT BASE Portable DVD player.

It's not blow your mind technology, its just a compact DVD player as you know it, it comes with a 4 inch LCD screen where you can watch your videos straight from quiapo or your video stores, no conversions, no uploads or downloads, just pop and play ur CD, VCD, DVD disk.
If you think a 4 inch screen is too small for you, look at a 21 inch from 9 feet far, most probably the distance of your tv from your sofa, its just the same size from that vantage point if your DVD player is perched on your lap. Isn't life neat?
Accessories : 3 hour rechargeable battery (good for about 2 movies)
carry case
a/v cable
power supply
remote control (!)
Funny conversation with clerk :
C : (with pride) Ma'am it comes with a remote control
N : What will i need the remote control for? you think i will use this unit more than a foot away? wala akong superman vision.
C : a he he.. basta po mayroong remote control
But then i realize (at home na) since you can use this as a normal DVD, when u have to plug it with a television mode, yup, the couch potato factor was considered (sorry manong, di mo naman ako kinonvince na hindi pala ridiculous yung idea.)

I'll take a better picture next time, my player on my bed.. he he..

nope i haven't slept with it yet.

All the usual buttons just more compact.

DAIG KO PA ANG HMR

DAIG KO PA ANG HMR Its in our genes.. to hang on to stuff other people consider trash. Can't seem to say goodbye to old gadgets unless i found a new home for them. Lookit what i found from my stash.. my first "walkman" given by my dad about 1980 (bet some of you haven't been born yet) and i remember playing my own punk rock cassette tape with the following songs.. rock lobster, de do do do de da da da, ant music.. This is senti to the max, i still get that high when i plug my ears with music ironic with my millieu, just like the kid at face/off listening to sugary pop-music, while people are shooting intensely at each other. I have never outgrown this kind of isolation :)

My Music Jogger -- still can remember the day my dad gave me this.. when you are a kid, waking up at 11 pm is just like christmas, my mom woke me up and led me zombielike to the living room where my dad gave me the big blue box.. It had a lady on the box, this unit had a leather case with bag straps or belt hook options (whooaaahhh.. belts where really strong those days.. he he)

notice the vintage stickers : Dymo DANDAN

and a bible verse sticker Isaiah 30:21 (aww..)

What's better was when i woke up the next morning the box was still by my side, it was not a dream. T'was for real. :)

Special features : 2 headphones for sharing. Sony didn't have this,

.. and a hotline to bring you back to reality (push the button and talk to the mic.. "Nina.. kakain na!")

Blue metal and silver buttons, beautiful!

I sleep with it on the bed, wake up on the floor.. they don't do gadgets this way anymore

The old with the new :)

Just this week, i found it since i was rummaging for an old Hi-8 i wanted to donate to an archive museum. I put in some batteries and tried it with a tape.. it still works :) I would love to march to mega mall one of these days just having a stroll with that as an accessory in tow. Try me! My walkman journeys : Poppy CP 100 - super basic cassette player 1980ish to forever Panasonic model something something - this one has radio and is auto reverse (must for an upgrade because i waste up my batteries falling asleep on one side of the cassette, and that is not good for the trees) - 1988ish to forever (just passed it on to my nephew) Ipod shuffle (1st gen) - 2005 - 2006 (the circle of life.. papa is using it now) Ipod Nano - 2006 (went dead) Ipod Video - 2007

God Bless my neighbors, I am a good neighbor, am very sure. I am not the type who'd request for sugar, suka, or can openers, I do not host crazy parties nor have yapping dogs, all my garbage I shoot in the garbage chute, they can borrow my morning paper lying around my doorstep until I wake up at 9 am, or on weekends it'll be parked there forever in a complete weekend stack. I don't bring in Marang or Durian from Davao nor do I smoke a pipe smelling fee-fi-fo-fum. I don't do loud conversations, I am usually quiet as a mouse, except .. My only indulgence is music (and noise) especially during my senti moments. And this very moment, I am again in my Elliott Yamin mania.. 24/7. and since Iscream is not yet fixed, it's on full blast on i-tunes via my Altec Lansing speakers. New Album! ELLIOTT YAMIN! Kawawa talaga ang kapitbahay sa akin kapag nasa phase ako… LSS am sure.. And mas nakakainis dahil actual nilang naririnig forever.. It's good if I am in a good music mood.. Early this year it was Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Matthis, George Michael, Morrissey, Kat Stevens (Tea for Tillerman.) Ok lang. But I also had some Gary Granada, TVJ mode.. Buti na lang hindi ko pa naspotan yung Yoyoy Villame and El Bimbo album sa Las Pinas, music of my childhood. (I was doing interpretative dancing to Yoyoy Villame songs.. Tarzan and Barok and ooops I forget.. But the lines were.. Something about namumulot ng kandila And minumulto yung apartment niya.. Binebenta niya sa binondo yung wax collection niya Getting tired at the end of the day.. Saying aray… aray.. Aray. I remember acting like melting candles pag heto na ang linya.. AHHHHH.. Have to find the album quick! Quick! So there, a description of a future torture situation for my neighbors, they are lucky am so busy to go back to my violin screeeccchhhhhhiiiinnnnnnngggggg. Bring back, bring back bring back my Nano to me!!
Life as a Rocky Road Tester I am no lab tester, am not that technical. I am no road tester, am not that thorough, what I am is a Rocky Road tester..a thingamajig tinkerer, a gadget drooler and a clumsy technology torturer. I call myself such because of a recent incident err accident with my i-pod which I then called the Nina Nano but should now be rechristened the Iscream Ipod. Poor guy, it's now at the Apple Center recuperating because I left a blob of ice cream to melt at the wheel.. (Backstory : I have this wonderful sofa cum office furniture where I do most of my work.. Most of the time it allows me to do my thing, sitting me as ergonomically possible with my bad back and letter "C" (my mom's description of my posture,) during workmode, converting into a dining hall during "lunch" and "dinner" (these are moveable but non-optional breaks -- can be combined as "brunchiners"), cradle me as I watch TV, sit me comfortably as I do my endless chatting. During one of my workathon mode where, work-leisure-sustainance were one continuous movement, the accident happened. I didn't notice my mistake until it was pack up time at around 1 am. I was clearing my sofa for dishes, papers, phones, etc. fixing my stuff and behold, my black silicon case became brown, soaked in chocolate. I just wiped it with tissue and it still worked actually.. So I thought everything was a-ok.. But when I had to charge after a day.. It wouldn't respond anymore. Not charging.. So its goodbye to my near perfect (Nina-specific) playlist. Tried reformatting, rebooting and changing SWs… :( Verdict : Iscream ipod is not ice cream resistant. This is not my first time to do a rocky road test.. : 1. Motorola phones (this is before the brand became cool for GSM cellphones VX3 Razr (funny I need to describe it as GSM, it made its first cool carnation as startac -- when non GSM phones where called analog) can withstand lugao swimming for 15 secs. Provided you have to dip it again in water and blow dry it like crazy. 2. Nokia phones cannot withstand toilet water (this test done by a band lead singer I know.) or she declared her unit dead because she can't take to put her unit back near her face if somebody calls her.
